While in the liner notes it states that Higurashi Aiha has made the music and lyrics for all the songs, Yuki claims that 'the end of shite' is mainly a song she made herself (What's In? Jan. 2002, Yuki no hateshinai tawagoto Vol. 83).
This single marks Yuki's solo debut. She had been working together with 'Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her' lead vocals Higurashi Aiha to make most of her songs. Aiha is also on guitar. For her debut Yuki has dramatically changed her singing style! She has dropped most of her high pitched sounds for a more mature version of her fantasic voice.
Yuki and Aiha
Her songs are lot more mellow than her Judy and Mary work. 'bed' the second track might even too mellow for those who were addicted to the extremely upbeat JAM music. When enjoying her solo music it's a good idea to forget your favorite Judy and Mary songs, or you might be dissapointed when it sound totally different. True YUKI fans, however, will welcome this unique and fresh change in style. The songs are all under three minutes in length, for her first album I'm sure we're all waiting for those extended mixes!
'the end of shite' is an all around excellent song. Yuki calls it a perfect love song. While it still has the classic Yuki rasp she sometimes slips into she's, as I said before, dropped most of the high pitches. It's very Yuki! 'bed' is a very slow, short, and mellow song. She sings with the deepest voice I've ever heard her use, and she took on a whisper (similar to Chara). 'Count Backwards' gives a little of the old Yuki sound, she lets off some of her old sassy personality and uses some higher pitches. I think this whole single shows how she has been very influenced by her work with Mean Machine and Chara.
